Spine Revision Surgery – Postoperative Spinal Infection and Instability

High-Risk Revision Surgery Brings New Hope to a 69-Year-Old Patient
A 69-year-old patient developed an infection following spine fusion surgery at another facility. Despite antibiotic treatment, he continued to experience severe pain and was unable to stand or sit. After seeking help from Dr. Chang, he underwent a computer-assisted revision surgery via an anterior approach. The procedure involved thorough spinal debridement and extension of the spinal fusion to the pelvis for added stability. Following the surgery, the patient’s pain greatly subsided, and he regained the ability to help manage his daughter’s buffet restaurant, resuming daily activities with ease.
